For Whoever May Know

So, for the past couple of days it seems Donovan has been spitting up everything he eats. When I think there can't be anything else for him to spit up he proves me wrong. Whatever is going on also seems to be making him fussier than normal. He was also starting to sleep for longer periods of time at night, but that has gotten worse the past couple of nights. Jason mentioned calling the doctor, but I'm not one of those people who calls the doctor for every little thing. So, I just thought I would throw this out there for anyone that may have some advice.

I am not one who likes to call the doctor for everything either. Could be he is related cause all of my kids spit up alot too. They grew out of it fortunately. If it continues bring it up with your doctor at his next appointment.

Aubrey and Tyler both spit up a lot... Jason might even remember what a spitter-upper Tyler was. So, I feel your pain!

I'm not saying any of these things are the problem, but you could try a couple of things. With Aubrey I noticed a BIG difference in her fussiness if I cut out all dairy. If I ate any dairy, she spit up more and was more fussy. With Cooper I tried to not feed him so often... I would try to distract him (and myself) between feedings so I was only feeding him every 2-3 hours. I know at first it's important to feed them on demand, but sometimes I was the human binky, and he wasn't really hungry. I never figured out any solutions for Tyler. I just wore baby throw up all over my clothes every day. ;)

Good luck! You can call me if you have any questions, or just want to complain. Also, don't hesitate to call your doctor if you decide you need to. They're used to it!

Well here is what I know from my experience:
Greyson's pediatrician told us that most babies that spit up everything actually have acid reflux..which they actually grow out of and gets a lot better when they can sit up. She put Greyson on Prevacid to help with it.
Also, I've heard that when you burp your baby, you shouldn't pat their back because it makes them spit up more. You should hold them up like normal (by your shoulder) and rub from the lower back up and you kinda squeeze as you go up their back.
And last...is the dairy problem. Greyson started getting EXTREMELY fussy so at first we switched to goat's milk but then my neighbor told me to try cutting out my dairy. And that worked. Donovan might have a sensitivity to it. Instead I drank Lactaid which isn't bad. I would try this first because I think it's pretty common. Good luck!

Allston had reflux too, I am the kinda mom always calling the Dr. I figure better safe than sorry pluss I am paying them a loit so I can call whenever. Anyways Allston had reflux and the dr gave him a bit of medicine that you disolved in water in a spoon and gave him it really really helped. Call and ask his Dr. thats what they are there for and you guys all deserve some good sleep.

i think they have medicine that helps with the reflux. i have also heard that if you prop them up when they are sleeping, the reflux isn't so bad at night and they sleep better. i have even heard of people having them sleep in their car seat for a while.
good luck. he is a cutie.

I agree with what has been said. Prevacid can really help with symptoms of fussiness but may only decrease actually spitting up slightly. For my patients I am mostly concerned about the kids who stop gaining weight. Go ahead and call the doctor if you have questions. Most doctors don't mind, and if he or she does mind then get a new one. Just remember if his nurse calls you back it is the same as the doc calling you back. If you are really concerned you might want to bring her in just to get an accurate weight.
